Gingival recession

Gingival recession is when the gums recede thereby exposing the root surface of the tooth. Among others, this may be caused by wrong tooth brushing technique and could lead to tooth sensitivity and discomfort for the patient, as well as compromised aesthetics especially in the anterior teeth.

Lateral pedicle graft surgery is one of the treatment options to address this issue. This particular case utilizes a rotational split thickness flap technique. Only the epithilium and a layer of the underlying connective tissue is reflected. The bone underneath the flap is still covered by a layer of connective tissue to preserve the periosteum. This technique also prevents loss of marginal bone around the area.

The said procedure is safe, easy, and yields excellent longterm results.
